Dr. Gilberto Hernandez, MD, PhD

Medical Director - San Francisco

Dr Michael Doney Executive Medical Director Biograph longevity medicine physician preventive health specialist

Dr. Hernandez serves as Medical Director of Biograph’s San Francisco Bay Area clinic, where he leads a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and technologists in delivering rigorous, data-driven preventive care.

He earned his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Highland Hospital. He also holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from California Institute of Technology, where his research on gene regulatory networks in injured skeletal muscle deepened his understanding of cellular repair, adaptation, and physiologic resilience.

Prior to joining Biograph, Dr. Hernandez was a physician with The Permanente Medical Group in Oakland, managing a diverse panel of more than 2,000 patients. Over more than a decade in internal medicine and primary care, he focused on proactive, patient-engaged care while addressing the full spectrum of acute and chronic disease and coordinating complex treatment across medical and surgical subspecialties.

At Biograph, Dr. Hernandez integrates molecular biology, internal medicine, and performance physiology to elevate preventive medicine. He is known for his rigorous interpretation of the medical literature and for setting a high evidentiary standard across the organization. His work centers on translating advanced diagnostics into structured care pathways grounded in scientific validity.

An endurance athlete who competes in Ironman-distance events, Dr. Hernandez brings firsthand insight into performance, recovery, and long-term adaptation. His clinical philosophy reflects that perspective: resilience and longevity are built through disciplined training, precise measurement, and strategic planning over time. Under his leadership, cutting-edge diagnostics, careful data interpretation, and active patient partnership converge to define a new standard for preventive care.
